Big Blue breaks several school records at Sectional and District meet

Freshman James Hossler delivered a standout performance for Big Blue swimming on Saturday, becoming the first male swimmer since Josh Stephens in 2003 to qualify for the OHSAA State Swim Championships. He will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday in Canton, Ohio. Hossler set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:00.11, surpassing the previous mark of 1:00.33 set by John Hardrader 40 years ago.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Elijah Lay, Jude Yordy, Colson Culver, and James Hossler also made history, breaking their own school record with a time of 3:26.35.

On the girls’ side, senior Hazel Culver capped off her outstanding high school career by setting another record in the 200 individual medley. At the District meet, she finished with a time of 2:20.72, breaking her own previous mark. Culver, along with teammates Hannah Robinson, Makayla Platt, and Ana Grant, also broke a three-year-old school record in the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 2:01.35.
