Congratulations to these student-athletes from the Football, Girls volleyball, and boys golf teams. Trey Verdon, RJ Shepherd, Emili Schappacher, and Will Baker have been named athletes of the week, presented by Wings on Brookwood.
Coach Crouch's comments on Trey and RJ:
- Junior Trey Verdon is a leader in every way, shape, and form. He attacks every aspect of being a student-athlete. Trey excels in the classroom carrying a 3.9 GPA, dominates the weight room, and sets the tone on the field. In a key situation Friday night, Oak Hills was attempting to kick a game-tying field goal and Trey ripped through the A gap blocking the FG. Big Blue scoop and scored the block for an 86-yard touchdown return. Trey made a game-changing play that took the wind out of the Oak Hills sails. Trey currently has 21 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 TFL's. He demands double and triple teams every Friday night from the opponent and still has managed to fill out the stat sheet week in and week out.
- Junior RJ Shepherd is a two-sport athlete, student, and member of the Big Blue community. His dedication in the weight room year-round is paying off for him on the football field. He leads the team in receiving yards with 224. He also runs the ball and returns kicks. He currently has 441 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Coach Stacy's comments on Emili:
- Sophomore Emili Schappacher, her infectious energy keeps the team's momentum alive and moving forward. Emili is self-driven, a hard worker, and is a great example of what a Big Blue Athlete is all about, being her best on and off the court!
Coach Dole's comments on Will:
Sophomore Will Baker has been playing strong golf the last couple of weeks. He currently ranks 3rd on the team in average and over the past two weeks he has been the team medalist on one occasion and runner-up three times. Against Talawanda on Monday, Will shot a 43 for the Blue and has consistently been getting better as we progress through the season.
