Student Athletes of the Week 10/16/24
MICHAEL DOLE

Bryant, Mathis, Peters, Schappacher earn this weeks Wings on Brookwood Athletes of the week.

Many fall sports are coming to a close, but we still have plenty of athletes to recognize.  Please join me in congratulating the following Wings on Brookwood Athletes of the Week. Make sure to support Wings on Brookwood. They do so much for our student athletes.

Senior Antonio Mathis is a varsity football player. Antonio is the starting quarterback and has put together 2 strong performances against Butler County rivals Fairfield and Middletown. Against Fairfield he was 12 of 26 for 130 yards and versus Middletown he was 9 of 13 for 143 yards. He is a consistent performer on the offensive side and his leadership as the QB is definitely noticed on the field. He is a true leader in every way out there. He 74/130 overall with  856 yards on the season and 6 touchdowns. Antonio is peaking at the right time to lead the BIG BLUE into the postseason.

Junior Christopher(CJ) Bryant is a varsity football player. CJ is a starting linebacker for the BIG BLUE and is a dominant force in the middle. He is currently 3rd in the GMC in tackles with 79. Against Fairfield he had 14 tackles, and versus Middletown he recorded 11 tackles, 10 of those solo tackles. CJ has 7.5 sacks on the season and 17 of his tackles are for a loss. When you watch the BIG BLUE on the field, it is easy to find #8 on defense because he will always be around the ball. He is not afraid to make the hard hit. We are looking forward to a great rest of the season from CJ, and we know as a senior next year, he will be even more dominating on the defensive side of the ball.

Junior Emili Schappacher is a member of the varsity volleyball team. Emili was the setter for the team this year. She is in the top 10  in assists in the league with 330 on the season. She is also in the top 5 in service aces with 53. Along with being a great passer, she also has 182 digs and 52 kills on the season. In her last 2 regular season games, both victories,  against Princeton and Colerain she recorded 43 assists, 6 service aces, and 8 digs. Emili is one of the most competitive athletes at BIG BLUE. She has high expectations for herself and the team. She and all of the juniors returning next year should lead to a great fall for the VB team.

Senior Isabella Peters is a member of our varsity girls soccer team. Izzy had the game winning goal against Princeton this year. She is a 3 year captain, 4 year starter and is so versatile she can play almost any position. This year she has started and played on the back line defense, but moved up when needed to midfield and striker. A stat that does not show up anywhere but shows the value of Izzy to this team, is that she played almost every minute of every game this season. Last year she was an All City player in Southwest Ohio. Her leadership on and off the field will be greatly missed as she moves on.
