Alexander, Davis, Lay, and Smiley earn this week Wings on Brookwood Athletes of the Week
The BIG BLUE winter sports season is coming to an end soon, but we have some great athletes to continue showcasing. Please join me in congratulating the following Wings on Brookwood Athletes of the Week. Make sure to support Wings on Brookwood. They do so much for our student athletes.
Senior Jacob Alexander is a member of the Academic Quiz Team. As a senior co-captain and leader, Jacob has demonstrated excellence, skill, and a passion to be a leader and example to his teammates. Jacob provided that 1-2 punch that is needed and desired in a team and has been a driving force to the Academic Quiz Team's success. Hamilton closed out the regular season with a 16-2 record, capping off an impressive 14-game winning streak to secure second place in the GMC standings. Their 16 victories set a new school record and Jacob's leadership and knowledge was a huge reason for these successes.
Senior Elijah Lay is a member of the swimming team. At Sectionals Elijah dropped time in both the 50 Freestyle & 100 Free. In the 50, he finished in 8th at the Keating Sectional with a time of 23.26 which made him 36th overall in Southwest Ohio. In the 100, Elijah swam a best time of 51.88 making him 45th in the region. Elijah is a part of the District qualifying 200 & 400 Freestyle relay team. The 400 Freestyle relay team also broke the school record for the 4th time this season at Sectionals. Elijah has been a true senior leader on the team this year and has really stepped up for the boys team. His hard work paid off and we are excited to see what he does at Districts.
Sophomore Makiya Smiley is a member of the JV cheer squad. She is a great representation of the Big Blue cheer program! She continuously has a great attitude, and uplifts her teammates. She is an amazing back spot and has really helped our other athletes feel confident learning new skills. We are excited to have 2 more years with Makiya.
Senior Peyton Davis is a member of the boys basketball team. Peyton is having a great senior season. He has scored in double figures in 13 games including his last 5 games. He had a career high 29 points against Miamisburg on January 21 and added 23 against Sycamore last Friday. He is shooting 80% from the foul line and is in the top 5 in the GMC in Field Goal % at 55%. His leadership and work ethic on and off the court makes him a great role model for all athletes.
